Deep and Dark and Dangerous

By Mary Downing Hahn

Introduction:

“This is something for me to know and you to find out!”

Genre and Summary:

This book is a mystery book because the main character has to figure out information about another character. This story is about a girl named Ali who stays with her cousin, Emma at a cottage. There is a lake near the cottage too. When they are at the lake swimming, Emma and Ali meet someone named Sissy. Sissy is the meanest thing Ali has ever met. She also has a secret. Could it have anything to do with why her mom and aunt act really weird when they talk about the lake? Ali does not have much time to figure it out. Will she solve the mystery or DIE?!?

Strengths and Weaknesses:

In this book you wouldn’t find any weaknesses. A strength is that the beginning of the book is very attention grabbing. For example, Ali finds an old photograph. One person in the photo is her mom, another is her aunt, and someone has been torn out of the picture. Who is it? Then the adults start having a fight. Who doesn’t want to hear a fight? Here is another strength. The story is a page-turner. For example, when Ali wasn’t really allowed to go to the lake, her mom and aunt were disagreeing about letting her go. You weren’t sure if she was going to go or not to the lake. I would like to tell you a lot more strengths, but I can’t because I have already mentioned 2 strengths.

Recommendation:

I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t get afraid easily because you might get really scared. I rate this book 5 stars out of 5 stars because it was one of the best books I have ever read! I really enjoyed this book and I hope you do too!
