Elephant Run (Reviewed by Danny G)

Elephant Run

by: Roland Smith

Elephant Run is Fantastic! Nick Freestone lives in London with his mother when their house gets bombed. Nicks mom talks to Nick’s dad and they decide that Nick should go to Burma with his dad. Soon Japanese invade and capture Nick and his dad. Nick then gets forced to become a house servant.

Nick is stuck cleaning but secretly is developing a plan. Elephant Run is realistic fiction because the war could have happened and the characters and events could have happened though. Nick, Hilltop and Mya are working out a way to escape. Nick also meets Sergeant Sonji.

Elephant Run has many strengths to it. One of them is it is very tempting to read for example on a Saturday I read for forty minutes then a few minutes later I read for another forty minutes. On the downside they always get away when they are caught for example when they were in an underground tunnel a really mean person let them go which is not that realistic.

I would highly recommend Elephant Run. Elephant Run is good for 5th through 7th graders because you have to understand it and it has a little bit harder vocabulary like Bukong. Read Elephant Run to see if Nick and Mya escape the Japenese.
