The Wizard of Oz (Reviewed by Michael)

Have you ever read a fairytale before? Well, if you haven’t I think I know just the book for you. You may have heard of this book before, but if you haven’t, it’s The Wizard of Oz. It’s also a famous movie.

I believe this is a fictional adventure book because it has a couple of unreal adventures in it. In The Wizard of Oz, a tornado sent a girl named Dorothy far away from her home, which is Kansas, and into the land of Oz. She later meets the Tin Woodman, The Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. They all go to the wonderful Emerald City of Oz. The Tin man wants a heart, the scarecrow wants a brain, the lion wants courage, and Dorothy wants to get back to Kansas. If you want to find out if they get their wishes or not, you will have to read the story.

There are many good things about the book. One of its strengths is that the author creates characters and a setting, which are cool to imagine. For example, the winged monkeys, the different witches, and Dorothy’s three friends are all described with lots of details. Also, an emerald green city, like Oz, is fun to think about. Another strength is that this story teaches some important lessons. Dorothy, for example, is a kind friend who likes people just the way they are. These are just a couple of strengths in The Wizard of Oz.

I would recommend this book to kids who like fairytales, but not little kids because it might be scary and hard to understand. I also know adults who love this book, like my Mom and Dad. So if you’re looking for an adventurous fairytale with cool characters, read The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum.
